Master Joe Scota is presently a 5th Degree Black Belt in the World Tang Soo Do Association. He has been operating Scota Karate Academy since 1993 as the Master Instructor and has been training in the martial arts since 1988. He began the study of Tang Soo Do in March of 1988 because his son wanted to take karate lessons. Over the course of the next several years his passion for the martial arts turned into the desire to become an instructor. He began teaching with his instructor in 1990 and has continued to teach and train ever since.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, he relocated to Taylors, SC in August of 1993 to have a better lifestyle in the south. He began Scota Karate Academy in November 1993 and has now been teaching Tang Soo Do for the last twenty years. Master Scota enjoys working with children and adults alike.

I began my training January 2008 and am currently a second degree black belt. I have been teaching since August 2008 as a green belt.
As a student of the martial arts, I have a good pulse on the challenges other adults are having in their training and enjoy helping them get past them. When helping the children, nothing is better than seeing their faces when they “get it”! With the guidance of Master Scota, every teaching experience presents new opportunities to learn to be a better skilled student and instructor. I am looking forward to gaining further experience and training as I now prepare for my third degree black belt test.
